Check for Missing Shingles
If you see and loose or missing shingles on your roof, you should replace them so your home doesn’t get water or ice damage during the upcoming winter.
Repair Any Hail Damage
If you live in an area that has had a hail storm in the last year, you should go out and check your roof and gutters for damage. Hail could have caused dents or small tears and holes in your roof or gutters.
Flashing
If you have a chimney or other roof projections, check the flashing around it. It prevents melting ice, snow, and rain from getting into your home and causing damage, so it may need to be replaced if it’s old or coming away from your roof.
Inspect Your Attic For Water Damage
look for water stains or signs of water damage on the decking and rafters. If there are any areas that show evidence of water damage, you will need to make the necessary repairs or contact a professional roofer to fix the issue as soon as possible
Add Insulation
After fixing your attic, add some extra insulation up there. It will help prevent the formation of ice dams on your roof by keeping the warmth of your house evenly distributed.
Clean Your Gutters
Clean all leaves and debris out of your rain gutters. You can clean your gutters using a small garden trow and or a set of gloves to get out leaves and twigs then run a hose at the highest ends to rinse the dirt and or granules from shingles out of your gutters and down-spouts. Rake all leaves and debris away from the ground area surrounding that your downspouts deposit run-off this will help prevent ice and snow build so that your downspouts wont get clogged with ice.
